The Turkish government has rejected Elon Musk’s proposal to send a satellite broadband service to the country after the country’s worst earthquake in decades.

musk Said on Twitter that one of his companies, Space Exploration Technologies Corp., could provide the Starlink network as soon as it is approved by the Turkish government.

A senior Turkish official, who did not want to be named, thanked the multi-billionaire for the offer but said Turkey has enough satellite capacity. The person said the country has base stations operating with batteries, although power may not be provided in some areas.

Starlink has not yet been approved by the Turkish government. SpaceX can send as soon as it is approved.

A 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck the southeastern Turkish city of Gaziantep, killing hundreds and injuring thousands in Syria and Turkey. This is the most powerful earthquake to hit the country since 1939.

SpaceX is about to launch Turkey’s first communications satellite Turksat 6A into orbit in the first quarter of this year.
